Deepen your portfolio and photograph international public figure, Alva Sim, while using the metering techniques conveyed in Program One. With considered conceptual planning, this segment begins with a brief demonstration on light placement and metering. Each lighting pattern will be developed to aid Randy’s artistic intention of matching the shadow with the mood of Alva’s diverse ability to convey emotion.

“Alva Sim was raised in the United Kingdom and is of African and Jamaican decent. Now a resident of Austin, Texas, Alva’s artistic modeling endeavors are widely accepted and celebrated by a host of artists due to her endearing demeanor and transcending ability to portray the deepest aspects of the human condition.

Workshop topics:

  1.  Day starts with a 20 minute private portfolio review (times will be assigned)
  2. Brief review of the exposure triangle
  3. Create triangles in posing males/females/groups to achieve a pleasing composition
  4. OCF gear review, max sync speed and high speed sync discussion
  5. Learn Alison’s lighting triangle, power levels, positions and modifiers that define her style
  6. Learn when to use dome caps, reflectors, softboxes, grids and gels
  7. Learn and shoot the setup and techniques needed for her dramatic water/fog sports images
  8. Travel off site and learn to shoot an object at twilight (HDR and light painting lessons)
  9. Learn and practice the technique of spinning fire

With images from the great state of Texas, West Indies, Caribbean, China, and around the USA, this seminar promises to shed light on how to improve your photography in the areas of on landscape, macro floral travel portraits and more. It’s about travel and down and dirty street photography where ever you may be. You will be photographing in this class so bring your camera. You will learn photographic principles and best practices, you will not only develop your photographer’s eye but will start using your camera more creatively producing images you will be proud of. Learn how to take control of your aperture, shutter speed and ISO. This course not only explains the basic science and nature of photography, but also introduces lots of hands-on practical exercises during which you will learn how to control and combine all different camera functions creatively.

Randy Kerr
Randy has photographed Texas and national public servants along with grand opening of events such as The National Wildflower Research Center, The Bob Bullock State history museum of Texas history, The Austin Convention center along with many Texas families and friends. Randy’s photographs hang in 27 countries around the world and have seen on ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, The History Channel and NBC Today Show regarding locations in the Caribbean. Randy’s body of work gained him a global award announced at the World Travel market in London Top Ten Travel Photographers for ecological studies and responsible tourism.

 

Doug Box
Doug has taught in all 50 states, and in Canada, China, Denmark, England, Ireland, Mexico, Scotland and Wales. His articles and images have graced the pages of most professional photographic publications and he has written six books published by Amherst Media. . Besides being an excellent photographer, he is a dynamic speaker and was chosen to teach at Hasselblad University. He is a Kodak Mentor, has done work for ProPhoto, Sekonic, Wescott, Millers Lab, Manfrotto and more
